| One
of a small bachelor pride of three male lions. They live in these
male prides after reaching maturity and until they find a mate with
whom they create their own pride |
 |
I
was surprised to discover that giraffes are almost like squirrels ..
they are everywhere in the bush! The birds live on the giraffes
and eat bugs and flies that are attracted to the animal |
 |
| Yes,
its real! Surrounded by dozens of African crockadiles as they
hunted chickens and other small animals was a sobering experience |
 |
So
ugly he was cute, this very cool bird decided he liked me and followed
me like a pet. Loved to play with my camera strap |
 |
| The
Blue Heron is the majestic national bird of South Africa. Their
national rubgy team is named after the countries national animal, the
Springbok |
 |
The
Blyde River Canyon is the third largest canyon in the world with a drop
of 2000 feet. Largest is the Grand Canyon and second is a canyon
in Namibia |
 |
| Impalas
are the McDonalds of the bush. They have markings like the "M"
logo on their butts, they are everywhere, and lions eat them for snacks |
 |
Zebras
are beautiful. This pic is softly focused because it is a mega-enlargement
taken with a powerful zoom from about 1200 yards away |
 |
| Tore
my heart out to see him locked in a cage in the place where he was born |
 |
The
Palace Hotel at Sun City is now owned by Michael Jackson. Casino,
resort, world class golf, and top name entertainment all nestled in
an ancient volcano |

For those
interested, these photographs were taken using my Nikon F100 with a
variety of Nikon and Tamron lenses ranging from 28mm to 400mm.
I used Kodak Gold 100, 200, 400 and 1000 film with Tiffen haze and polarizing
filters when needed. The prints were scanned at 600dpi, 6000 pixels
wide with 24 bit color on an HP scanner and then converted to 96dpi
and 320 pixels wide for this collection. I took about 2000 photos
during the trip. These are some of my best.
